BANFF/CANMORE SUMMIT MAY 12-14, 2010

REGISTRATION OPEN WITH EARLY BIRD RATE UNTIL FEBRUARY 28, 2010

The 2010 Summit will continue with its successful formula that combines progressive and insightful speakers together with sessions that facilitate the productive sharing of information by professionals that are dealing first hand with planning issues within our communities.

The May event has been designed to not only facilitate the sharing of ideas and solutions in light of the more recent global economic challenges but also invite new perspectives with a conference location in Banff and Canmore, Alberta, Canada. See below and the Schedule for more specifics:

ENHANCED FORMAT…we listened to your comments at the 2008 Summit and have worked to expand the opportunities for addressing our issues including roaming (mobile) sessions, and full day housing and design workshops. The Summit will also continue to offer the bus and walking tours (for both communities), keynote and plenary speakers as well as the Welcome Night, Dinner Reception and Recreation networking opportunities.

INFORMATIVE AND INSPIRING SPEAKERS…the Summit has gone Coast to Coast in search of speakers that will inspire us. Mark Holland, Principal, HB Lanarc of Vancouver will share his recent work related to “experience driven planning” whereby strategies are applied that with economic networks to support local businesses – and specifically recognizing the planners role in these changing economic times. Jonathon Lockman, Southern Maine Regional Planning Commission Planning Director & APA, Resort and Tourism Division Chair, will discuss the progressive approaches to mountain town and resort planning in communities in the US east. We are also working towards a few other presentations to further boost the program…more to come.

BANFF AND CANMORE DIFFERENT BUT COMPLEMENTING MOUNTAIN TOWN COMMUNITIES…the host communities embrace the diversity of issues facing our towns. The Town of Banff is a unique destination and community that accommodates visitors and tourism services within Banff National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) together with world class arts and culture. The Town of Canmore is located just outside the Banff National Park east gate and manages the pressures of growth resulting from its spectacular and strategic location.
