The Town of Banff is 128 kilometres (80 miles) west of Calgary, 401 kilometres (250 miles) southwest of Edmonton and 850 kilometres (530 miles) east of Vancouver. Commercial airlines service each of these three Canadian cities, and buses to Banff and Lake Louise run year round.

Banff is easily accessible from Calgary International Airport, a hub for world-wide connections. Major airlines operating regular flights to Calgary include Air Canada, Westjet, American Airlines, United Airlines, Continental Airlines, and Northwest Airlines. Scheduled van and motorcoach services connect Banff with Calgary Airport, with frequent departures throughout the day. Chartered shuttle and limousine services are also available. All major car rental agencies are represented at the Calgary International Airport, and some also have outlets in Banff. US/Canadian Border (WHTI): You will need a passport The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) is new U.S. legislation that requires all travellers carry a valid passport or other appropriate secure document, or combination of documents that establish citizenship and identity when travelling to the United States from within the Western Hemisphere.

By June 2009, anyone travelling by AIR, LAND or SEA/WATER between the United States and Canada is required to present a valid passport or NEXUS card (when used at designated airports) to enter or re-enter the United States.
